Renewables drive puts Great Britain at the forefront of decarbonisation
According to a new independent study, it confirms that Great Britain is rapidly increasing the rate of decarbonization over the last decade in comparison to anyone else in the world.
Over the last decade, many factors have played into the increasing rate of decarbonisation including carbon prices, coal retirements and the growth in wind energy. The most important factor has been the reductions in electricity demand which has dwarfed the others and has helped push down environmental impacts.
However, this decline could be reversed in the years ahead with the rise in the use of electric vehicles and household heat pumps, meaning further decarbonisation cannot be achieved through a reduction in demand alone.
