Inaugural Virtual Trade Mission: Connecting the UK & The Philippines

The British Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines successfully co-hosted the Inaugural UK-Philippines virtual trade mission this October in partnership with The Company Connector and sponsored by Kreston Reeves Accountants.

Attendees present were a mix of UK and Philippine representatives from various sectors, mainly automotive, education and training, food and drink, ICT, and professional services.

The British Chamber highlighted the Philippines as an investment destination for UK companies. With the Philippines’ high average annual GDP growth rate of 6 percent, foreign companies should view entering the market as a long-term investment with significant potential.

Executive Director and Trustee Chris Nelson attended 1-1 meetings with UK companies in the automotive, technology, and education sectors to discuss entry strategies to the Philippines. The British Chamber will continue to be personally in touch with all delegates to arrange follow-up meetings and finalize potential investments.

Speaking after the event, Chris said, “This first Virtual Trade Mission was a success and allowed us to provide face to face opportunities for our members and other businesses to meet and to discuss commercial opportunities.”

Jeremy Taylor of the Company Connector said, “Our post-event survey gave a 100% satisfaction with delegates saying they gained an understanding of mutual market opportunities and made useful commercial connections.”

Speaking on behalf of the event sponsors, Kreston Reeves, Michael O’Brien added, “It was great to be part of the first Virtual Trade Mission, providing insight of our experience of supporting businesses expand internationally to the attendees. These events give a brilliant opportunity for businesses to find out more about global market opportunities and also speak directly with people who have vast experience in supporting companies enter and grow in those markets.”

The programme continues on-line with all the delegates joining a private virtual space to discuss and develop existing and further opportunities.

Further events are being planned to promote trade between the UK and The Philippines for 2021 with a focus on Food & Drink, Education and the Automotive sectors. These events will continue to contribute to the $1.3bn currently traded between the two countries.

Jeremy continued, “This event with The Philippines is the first of many and we will be adding to the programme allowing businesses to trade with very specific, growing markets. Watch this space for details of further Virtual Trade Events with the USA, Argentina, the Middle East and Eastern Europe in 2021.”
