Important Update on Railway Improvement Works in Horley

We are excited to share some important news regarding the upcoming Railway Improvement Works at the Horley Subway, as outlined in detail by Network Rail in their recent letter to our community. These works will commence on December 9, 2024, and are due for completion by the end of January 2025.

Purpose of the Works

These essential renewal works focus on the subway located at Station Road near Horley station. They aim to extend the life of the subway and ensure the safety and reliability of our railway system for our passengers.

What to Expect

The main works to replace the deck of the subway (which lies beneath the railway tracks) will take place continuously over the Christmas and New Year period. The work will involve replacing the deck of the subway, removing the track and conductor rail, and then reinstating the track and ballast.Please note that there will be no pedestrian access through the subway throughout these works and a diversion route will be in place. Impact on Commuters and Local Residents

The subway’s closure from December 9, 2024, to January 12, 2025, and the closure of the High Street car park might cause some disruption. Alternative public parking will be available in the nearby Horley Central car park or Victoria Road car park during this time. The recycling bring site will also be closed, with the nearest alternative located at Victoria Road car park, Horley.Due to the use of heavy machinery, residents may experience some noise disturbance, especially during the deck replacement. However, Network Rail assures us that every effort will be made to minimize noise as much as possible.
